What these percentages describe.

These are shares of labeled ads across the full observed creative panel. This panel includes business types set aside from the retailer comparison report. It is not a percentage of retailers or a comparison restricted to a particular store size.

Google covers 3,601 labeled ads from retailers’ own accounts. Meta covers 1,071 labeled ads after brand-account ads were excluded. Unclassified creative remains visible in the charts.

Each ad was labeled against a fixed list of questions. More ads from one retailer give that retailer more weight in the creative mix. Repeated creative can appear in multiple ads.

Read the creative review notes

The review took place on September 20, 2026 using the Google Ads Transparency Center and Meta Ad Library. Meta was captured once; campaigns that ran only in July or August are outside that capture.

Google includes text-led search ads as well as image and video creative. Those formats account for some of the difference between platforms. “How specific the offer is” is available for Meta only.

Labeling describes what the creative appears to contain. It does not measure the skill of the advertiser, its spending or its sales results. A frequently used message is not evidence that it performs better.

The charts preserve rounded shares from the published research summary. They include uncertain labels and may not sum to exactly 100%.
