Reference data on luxury watches and jewelry is a mess. Diameters, movements, materials, and prices live in a dozen places, most of them copied off a spec sheet someone typed once and never touched again. Look up a Submariner across three sites and you get three different numbers, and at least one of them is from 2019.

For a serious buyer comparing references, that is the whole problem. The spec has to be right, and the price has to be today's, or the comparison is worthless.

Building a reference that stays honest is not a content job, it is an engineering one. Thirty-five brands, sixteen thousand references, each one revised on the brand's own schedule. Nobody can hand-maintain that. The moment a person is re-keying specs, the data starts drifting the day it goes live.

The Approach

Strategic Design.

We designed and built Carat & Caliber as a custom platform on Next.js, hosted on Vercel's global network for speed, and we put a sync engine at the center of it.

The engine reads each brand's own website, the authoritative source, and pulls the spec sheet and price directly from it. When a brand revises a measurement or moves a price, the catalog re-syncs and the reference updates. No spreadsheet, no manual entry, no slow drift away from the truth.

On top of that data we built the tools a buyer actually wants. Every reference logs a price history, first-seen, low, and high, charted over time, so you see where a number has been instead of just today's. A "view to scale" feature lets you calibrate the screen with a credit card and see any watch at true physical size, so you know how 39mm really wears before you reach out. Variants switch in place, dial and metal versions of the same reference side by side. Faceted filters cut sixteen thousand references by brand, case size, price, and movement in a click. And a personal feed pings you when a price moves or a spec changes across any brand you follow.

The Solution

Performance & Emotion.

The result is a reference that maintains itself. The specs stay accurate because they come from the source and re-sync on change, not because someone remembered to update them. The prices are current for the same reason. And the experience does things a static catalog cannot, true-to-size viewing, real price history, and a watchlist that tells you the moment something shifts.

For any retailer sitting on a deep catalog, this is the point. Product data that updates itself, priced live, presented with tools shoppers can't get anywhere else, used to be an enterprise-only build. We made it for an independent. If your catalog is only as current as the last time someone edited it by hand, this is what the alternative looks like.
